This month’s top question from you!

Do the new vaginal health supplements actually make you smell sweet and taste like candy?

Do you want your vagina to smell and taste sweet like candy? Want to taste irresistible and have your partner(s) craving more? Social media has brought to light new vaginal health supplements you can get, either in a pill or a gummy. Supposedly all you have to do is take the supplement everyday and you'll smell and taste "oh so sweet". Isn't that easy?! Wouldn't that be just so amazing and almost too good to be true?! Well if it seems to good to be true, it probably is. Let's talk a little this month about what these new supplements are and what they are doing.

First of all, vaginas are not meant to smell like flowers and taste like candy. Vaginas are sensitive, and daily activities and dietary changes can effect the way they smell and taste. Vaginas will all smell and taste different but unless you poured honey right on top to lick it off it should not taste like candy. Bathing regularly can help with typical smells, like sweating all day and having a strong body odor, but if you are concerned because the smell of your vagina changes and seems strong or maybe there is an unusual discharge that's creating a smell you should reach out to your physician to see about testing for possible infections, like bacterial vaginosis. Vaginal health supplements will not help cure or prevent STD's, for any concerns always check with your physician.

What exactly are the benefits of vaginal health supplements if they are not changing your smell and taste? Understanding the real goal that vaginal health supplements are trying to achieve is key to understanding the way that they work. Vaginas are naturally acidic and have a pH level. The pH level is the measurement of how acidic the vagina is. The vagina is acidic to help protect against different things, like fungal and bacterial infections. PH levels effect the way that your vagina smells and tastes. The typical range for pH levels are between 3.8-5.4 on a scale of 1-14. There are many different factors that effect your pH level including things like age, current medications, recent sex, and even which phase of the menstrual cycle you're in, if you have one. If your pH is not balanced you may smell and taste different, some may say more sour or potent. There are plenty of things to effect your pH lets take a look at how these supplements are supposed to help.

Vaginal health supplements are not harmful and are taken daily just like a vitamin, because essentially that's all it is. These supplements will help the overall health of your body, but having a healthy and balanced diet will have the biggest effect on your vaginas smell and taste, similarly to how diet may change the taste of someone's semen. Supplements are full of probiotics, vitamins, even herbs and spices. When you take these products they really are just a different combination of the same or very similar ingredients. Each company will be different, but lots of these products are going to be different amounts of the same things. Including probiotics in the supplements helps to balance the healthy bacteria in the body, which can help improve PH levels therefore improving smells and taste. Vitamins of course will help with overall health but, certain vitamins like vitamins C and E help with boosting the defense system and overall skin health therefore helping promote vaginal health. Vitamins C and E are both frequently included as main ingredients in vaginal health supplements.

So let's back to the question then, will these new supplements actually make you taste and smell like candy? These supplements will not cause a change to your taste or smell, but they will help to regulate your body's pH levels which in turn could help to improve your smell and taste. If you are still concerned about your smell and taste, check with your physician about any possible underlying issues.

This October we'd like to take the time to recognize one of our top two owners, Jake! Jake and his amazing wife Lalani opened FTLOI almost sixteen years ago. Starting from the ground up this couple decided to build a store and safe place in their community.

Owning and operating FTLOI has given him a sense of purpose and accomplishment. Jake is proud of many things including, "The amazing people we have working here, helping make this store what it is." There are many accomplishments to be proud of, but one of his favorites is being able to "provide a way for so many people locally and far away the ability to pursue a healthy and satisfying sex life." Jake is a remarkably compassionate, smart, and a silly soul who truly does inspire the entire FTLOI family.

When he is not at FTLOI he is definitely staying busy. While Jake is not from State Farm he is always there when you need him. When problems arise he is just a phone call away. Jake is always working quickly to find solutions and new ways to improve FTLOI. If he is not at FTLOI you'll oftentimes find Jake cooking or spending quality time with his extraordinary family. Getting outside and exploring is another fun activity he enjoys, especially skiing through the hills of snow, when it's in season. We truly appreciate Jake and all the hard work, time, and care he has and continues to put forth setting an outstanding example for us all. Jake we are so happy you and Lalani decided to open and have us as part of your FTLOI family!

This month’s top question from you!

What is "real" sex? I have given my partner a blowjob and they've gone down on me but does that count as "real" sex?

What is "real" sex? Is there such a thing as "fake" sex? In general, most people have an idea about what activities they consider sex, but have you ever stopped to consider that other people may not think as sex the same way you or I do? When talking about sex it is important that we understand there are many different kinds of sex and each person interprets different activities as "real" sex.

Every person will have their own definition and variation as to what they believe to be "real" sex, but isn't all sex real? They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder and that is the same with sex. Everyone has their own perspective on sex and the activities they include in their own personal definition of it. Sex is an intimate activity, the way you define and enjoy it will be different than every other person you meet. Just because you may enjoy an activity and count it as sex, does not mean everyone sees it the same way.

Sex can be a complicated topic to discuss. Think back to your first sexual experience, has your own definition and expectation of sex changed since then? When people think of an example of sex, typically people think there has to be some type of penetration for the activity to be considered sex. The three types of sex that are usually thought of include, vaginal sex, oral sex, and anal sex. Would you consider fingering to be sex even though it's not technically "sex"? Even though there is still penetration or would you just consider it foreplay? There are so many ways to interpret different activities. When you look up the definition of sex it is: "Sexual activity, including specifically sexual intercourse." Notice there are not any specific activities defined or listed. The way we define and think of sex is not a simple black or white answer.

We live in a time where technology allows us access to sex at anytime. Activities like: phone sex, nude photo exchange, live cam shows, and watching porn can all be included as a sexual activity, but is it sex? Does oral sex count as sex? What about anal? What about fingering? If two vagina owners decided they wanted to have sex does it count as sex if there's no penetration? If they decided just to go down on one another would you still think that they had sex together? What if they fingered each other, is that "sex" because there was penetration? Is penetration, or lack of, going to be the defining factor? Or is it more situational? Sex is a different unique experience for each person.

Sex is an experience. Having another person or people, to experience it with is what makes it real sex. All sex is real sex even if the activity your doing doesn't fit into a specific definition, like vaginal or anal sex. You must be the one to define sex for yourself. Having a definition of what sex is does not exclude activities but instead leaves room for you to interpret and explore to create your own definition of what sex is. It's fascinating to learn and interact with others and see just how different each person views sex. Have a conversation with your partner(s) and even your friends. Explore and find your own definition, what is sex to you?

We hope to help you and your partner(s) learn, grow, and enjoy together. Please submit your questions and we may be able to help answer! Check back next month to see if others are wondering the same.

XOXO~Sasha
